Radon Testing Inspections
Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of naturally occurring uranium in soil and rock. It is invisible, odorless and tasteless, and can only be detected by specialized tests. Radon enters homes through openings that are in contact with soil, such as cracks in foundation walls and floors, foundation wall penetrations below grate, and sump pits. Testing entails leaving two charcoal cannisters in the home, which we will pick up and send for analysis. It is important to note that the test will only detect the presence of radon during the duration of the test itself, and that any future tests may have varying results.
Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US, and therefore;
The NJ Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recommends all homes be tested for radon.
It is suggested to retest every two years,
if you do a major renovation or alteration,
or if the lower level (basement) begins to
be occupied.
